Chiang Mai Weed & Cannabis Shops 2026 — Nimman, Old City & Prescription Rules

Chiang Mai’s cannabis shops are concentrated in two walkable areas: the Nimmanhaemin (Nimman) lanes west of the Old City, and the Old City itself out to Tha Phae Road. What changed is how you buy. Since 26 June 2025 cannabis flower has been a “controlled herb” under the Thai Traditional Medicine Act, and shops may sell it only to people holding a PT 33 prescription from an authorised practitioner.

Our directory currently lists 14 cannabis shops, one clinic and one farm in Chiang Mai, taken from public map data. A listing is not proof of a licence. A shop that follows the law will ask to see your prescription before selling.

How to get a prescription for weed in Chiang Mai

1. Book a consultation with an authorised practitioner. This can be a medical doctor, a Thai traditional medicine practitioner or another prescriber certified by the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine (DTAM). They assess your symptoms and decide whether cannabis suits you.
2. Get the PT 33 form if they prescribe. It records the product, dose and duration and is valid for up to 30 days. Foreign visitors identify themselves with a passport.
3. Buy only what it covers. A licensed outlet can sell up to a 30-day supply, and since January 2026 it must have a DTAM-trained staff member on site whenever it is open.

• Old City (Si Phum). Mavoix Coffee & Weed and Wake N’ Bake on Ratchadamnoen Soi 1, Weed Connection on Singharat Road and Happy Monster in Si Phum.
• Tha Phae and Chang Moi. Dr. Green Cannabis Dispensary on Tha Phae Road and HIGH QUEEN CNX on Wichayanon Road, between the Old City and the Ping River.
• Further out. Single listings in Hai Ya south of the moat, near Big C Don Chan, and in San Sai.

Rules for visitors in Chiang Mai

• Keep it private. Smoking in public so that the smoke or smell bothers others can be fined up to 25,000 THB, with up to 3 months in prison, under the Public Health Act 1992. That includes temple grounds, markets and the moat walkways.
• The sale penalty is separate. Selling without a prescription can cost the seller up to 20,000 THB and up to a year in prison under the Traditional Medicine Act. The penalties guide explains why the two figures differ.

How do I get a prescription for weed in Chiang Mai?

Book a consultation with an authorised practitioner at a clinic, such as Chiang Mai CM Mediclinic in Chang Phueak. If they decide cannabis is appropriate they issue a PT 33 prescription, valid for up to 30 days. Bring your passport.

Where are the weed shops in Chiang Mai?

Most are in Nimman (Sois 9 to 13), inside the Old City around Ratchadamnoen and Singharat roads, and along Tha Phae Road. A few are further out in Hai Ya and San Sai.

Can tourists buy weed in Chiang Mai?

Only with a valid PT 33 prescription. Without one, buying cannabis flower is not legal, even if a shop is willing to sell.

Are there weed cafes in Chiang Mai?

Some listings combine coffee and cannabis, such as Mavoix Coffee & Weed in the Old City. Cafe or not, the same prescription rule applies to flower, and smoking must not create a public nuisance.

Is CBD legal in Chiang Mai?

Yes, if the product contains less than 0.2% THC and is registered with the Thai FDA as a food, cosmetic or herbal product.
