OG Kush is one of the most well-known and widely cultivated cannabis strains in the world. Originating in California in the early 1990s, it is believed to be a cross of Chemdawg, Lemon Thai, and Hindu Kush. The “OG” in its name has been the subject of much debate — some say it stands for “Original Gangster,” while others claim it refers to “Ocean Grown.” Regardless of etymology, OG Kush has become the genetic backbone of countless modern hybrids.

OG Kush delivers a balanced combination of head and body effects. The initial onset brings a euphoric head rush and mood elevation, followed by a deep physical relaxation that spreads through the limbs. Despite its hybrid nature, the indica side tends to dominate in later stages, making it versatile for both afternoon and evening use. It is commonly used medicinally for pain relief, stress reduction, insomnia, and depression.

Growing Information

OG Kush presents a moderate growing challenge. The plants are susceptible to powdery mildew and bugs, so a controlled environment is preferred. Flowering takes 8 to 9 weeks, and the strain responds well to techniques like topping and SCROG. In Thailand’s warm climate, outdoor grows can produce impressive results when humidity is properly managed. Yields are moderate to high with proper care.

OG Kush is a Californian line that Thai growers raise from imported seed. Potency varies by batch, so the lab figures on the packaging matter more than the name.
