Since 26 June 2025 cannabis flower has been a “controlled herb” under the Thai Traditional Medicine Act. A shop may sell it only to someone holding a PT 33 prescription from an authorised practitioner (a doctor, a Thai traditional medicine practitioner or another prescriber certified by the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine). The prescription is valid for up to 30 days, a licensed outlet can sell up to a 30-day supply, and since January 2026 it must keep a DTAM-trained staff member on site whenever it is open.

Rules for visitors in Kanchanaburi

• Public smoking that creates a smoke or smell nuisance can be fined up to 25,000 THB, with up to 3 months in prison, under the Public Health Act 1992.
• War memorials and national parks. The River Kwai bridge, the war cemeteries, Hellfire Pass and Erawan National Park are public places. Keep cannabis away from them, and do not carry it across the Myanmar border.
