The Chanthaburi Region
Chanthaburi sits at the junction of mountains, orchards, and coastline in Thailand’s east. Known locally as the City of the Moon, the provincial capital features a Cathedral dating to the French colonial era, a gem market operating since the 15th century, and some of Thailand’s best tropical fruit. The province’s growing cannabis sector reflects its tradition of agricultural enterprise.
PT 33 Prescription Required
Thai law changed on 26 June 2025: cannabis flower is now a controlled herb and can only be dispensed against a PT 33 prescription. The form is issued after a consultation with a DTAM-certified practitioner and is valid for up to 30 days. A seller that hands over flower to a customer with no prescription risks up to one year in prison and/or a 20,000 THB fine. Smoking in public is a separate offence under the Public Health Act, with fines up to 25,000 THB. Read the PT 33 prescription guide before visiting any shop in Chanthaburi.
