Chanthaburi is eastern Thailand’s gem trade capital, a province of tropical fruit orchards, French-colonial architecture, and a quietly growing cannabis scene. With a population of roughly 70,000 in the main town, Chanthaburi sits about 250 km southeast of Bangkok along the Gulf coast, closer to the Cambodian border than to the tourist islands.

As of early 2026 the province has 46 cannabis listings: 40 dispensaries and 6 farms. By law, every sale of cannabis flower needs a valid PT 33 prescription. Nearly every shop in the province holds a perfect 5.0 Google rating, reflecting small-town service and a loyal customer base.

How buying cannabis in Chanthaburi works now

Since 26 June 2025 cannabis flower has been a “controlled herb” under the Thai Traditional Medicine Act. A shop may sell it only to someone holding a PT 33 prescription from an authorised practitioner (a doctor, a Thai traditional medicine practitioner or another prescriber certified by the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine). The prescription is valid for up to 30 days, a licensed outlet can sell up to a 30-day supply, and since January 2026 it must keep a DTAM-trained staff member on site whenever it is open.

Rules for visitors in Chanthaburi

• Public smoking that creates a smoke or smell nuisance can be fined up to 25,000 THB, with up to 3 months in prison, under the Public Health Act 1992.
