Ayutthaya

Ayutthaya — the ancient capital of the Siamese kingdom — is a UNESCO World Heritage Site roughly 80 km north of Bangkok. The city sits on an island formed by three converging rivers, and its skyline is defined by the brick prangs and crumbling chedis of temples destroyed by the Burmese in 1767. Most visitors treat Ayutthaya as a day trip from Bangkok, arriving by train or car in 1–2 hours. What many do not expect is a thriving cannabis scene woven into the narrow sois between the ruins.

As of March 2026, Ayutthaya province has 39 cannabis dispensaries and 3 cannabis farms, totaling 42 cannabis businesses. There are currently no dedicated medical cannabis clinics in the province. Despite its modest city-proper population of around 55,000, Ayutthaya’s dispensary density per capita is among the highest in central Thailand — fuelled by steady tourist traffic and proximity to Bangkok’s supply chain.

Best Cannabis Dispensaries in Ayutthaya

Ayutthaya’s dispensary scene punches well above its weight for a city this size. Here are the top shops by Google review count and rating.

Top-Rated Dispensaries

FIRST TIME leads the province with 69 Google reviews and a 4.9-star rating. It is the most-reviewed dispensary in Ayutthaya and a reliable first stop for visitors arriving from Bangkok.

M&P Cannabis holds 35 reviews at 4.6 stars and carries a broad product range. Blessed Ayutthaya Cannabis matches the 4.9-star rating with 34 reviews — a smaller operation with a loyal local following.

Cannabis Haze is the only dispensary in Ayutthaya with a perfect 5.0-star rating, backed by 31 reviews. If rating quality matters more than selection size, this is the shop to visit.

420 Exclusive Cannabis Shop rounds out the top five with 30 reviews at 4.7 stars and is one of the more tourist-accessible options in the old city area.

Sandweed (4.9 stars, 28 reviews) and BK Cannabis Dispensary (4.9 stars, 28 reviews) are both well-regarded mid-tier dispensaries with strong local reputations. MAOSA Cannabis Shop (4.9 stars, 27 reviews) completes the top eight.

Budget Options

Ayutthaya is not a high-markup tourist island. Because many dispensaries here serve a largely Thai customer base, prices are competitive with Bangkok’s mid-range shops and noticeably cheaper than Phuket or Koh Samui. Look for shops advertising flower from 100 THB per gram or less — several dispensaries outside the old city island cater to local buyers at everyday Thai prices.

Areas for Cannabis in Ayutthaya

The Island / Old City

The historic island — surrounded by the Chao Phraya, Pa Sak, and Lopburi rivers — is where most tourists spend their time. The area around Wat Mahathat, Wat Phra Si Sanphet, and the night market has the highest concentration of dispensaries. FIRST TIME, Blessed Ayutthaya Cannabis, and Cannabis Haze are all accessible from the main temple circuit. This is the most convenient area if you are visiting for the day.

Bang Pa-in

About 20 km south of the old city, the Bang Pa-in district is home to the Bang Pa-in Royal Palace (the Summer Palace). A handful of dispensaries serve visitors in this area, which is the first stop if you are driving from Bangkok. Shops here tend to be quieter and more locally oriented than their old-city counterparts.

Sena

Sena district, northwest of the city center, is a residential and agricultural area with a small number of dispensaries serving the local community. Prices here can be among the lowest in the province.

Wang Noi

Wang Noi sits along the main highway corridor between Bangkok and Ayutthaya. Dispensaries in this area cater to travelers passing through and factory workers in the surrounding industrial estates.

Nakhon Luang & Outer Districts

The more rural districts of Ayutthaya province — including Nakhon Luang, Phak Hai, and others — have scattered dispensaries that serve farming communities. Selection may be limited, but prices reflect local economics rather than tourist demand.

Cannabis Farms in Ayutthaya

Ayutthaya has three cannabis farms, reflecting the province’s agricultural character.

ZANDIGA Farm & Dispensary operates as a combined grow operation and retail shop, offering visitors the chance to see cultivation alongside purchasing. It is the most accessible farm experience in the province.

Khlong Chik Subdistrict Community Enterprise represents the community-enterprise model that the Thai government encouraged when cannabis was first decriminalized. These operations are typically small-scale, locally managed, and focused on supplying nearby dispensaries.

Cannabis Hemp Ayothaya Cafe blends farm cultivation with a cafe format, offering cannabis products alongside food and drinks in a relaxed setting.

Getting a PT 33 Prescription

Under the June 2025 Cannabis Act, a valid PT 33 prescription is required to purchase cannabis from any licensed dispensary in Thailand. As of March 2026, Ayutthaya has no dedicated medical cannabis clinics.

This is an important planning detail. If you are day-tripping from Bangkok, strongly consider obtaining your PT 33 prescription in Bangkok before traveling to Ayutthaya. Bangkok has dozens of clinics and telehealth options that can issue a prescription quickly — often within 30 minutes. A valid PT 33 prescription works nationwide, so there is no need to find a local clinic.

Options:

  • Get your prescription in Bangkok first — The most reliable approach. Visit a cannabis clinic in Khao San Road, Sukhumvit, or Silom before heading north.
  • Telehealth — Some Ayutthaya dispensaries may be able to connect you with a physician for a remote consultation. Ask when you arrive, but do not rely on this being available.
  • Provincial hospitals — Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital may offer cannabis consultations, but this is a general hospital service and not a dedicated cannabis clinic.

Ayutthaya Cannabis Prices (March 2026)

GradePrice Range (THB/gram)Notes
Budget50–100Basic local strains, available at smaller shops
Mid-range100–250Quality hybrid and imported strains
Premium250–450Top-shelf exotics, less common than in Bangkok
Farm-direct80–180Available at Ayutthaya’s 3 cannabis farms

Prices in Ayutthaya sit between Bangkok rates and the deeper discounts found in non-tourist Isan cities like Korat. You will pay less than Phuket or Koh Samui, but slightly more than what you would find in truly local markets further from the capital.

How to Get to Ayutthaya

  • By car — 1–1.5 hours from Bangkok via the Asia Highway (Route 1) or the expressway. Traffic can extend the drive during weekday rush hours.
  • By train — Regular services from Bangkok’s Krung Thep Aphiwat (Bang Sue Grand) station and Hua Lamphong. The journey takes 1.5–2 hours and costs as little as 20 THB for a third-class seat. The train station is on the east side of the island, within walking distance of the old city.
  • By minivan — Minivans depart from Bangkok’s Victory Monument and Mo Chit areas. Journey time is approximately 1–1.5 hours. Cost is typically 60–80 THB.
  • By boat — Scenic river cruises from Bangkok travel up the Chao Phraya to Ayutthaya, though these are typically full-day luxury tours rather than practical transport.

Ayutthaya is one of the easiest day trips from Bangkok. You can realistically visit temples in the morning, stop at a dispensary in the afternoon, and be back in Bangkok by dinner.

What to Know Before Visiting

  • Temple etiquette — Ayutthaya is first and foremost a heritage site. Do not consume cannabis near temples, within temple grounds, or in any area that could be considered disrespectful to the historical sites. Dress appropriately when visiting wats — shoulders and knees covered.
  • Respect heritage zones — The UNESCO-listed historical park is a protected area. Smoking of any kind is prohibited within temple ruins and the historical park boundaries.
  • Local and Thai-focused shops — Many Ayutthaya dispensaries serve a predominantly Thai customer base. Do not expect the English-language menus, Instagram-ready interiors, or tourist-oriented service that you might find in Bangkok or Phuket. This is not a drawback — just a reality to be aware of.
  • Limited English — Staff at smaller dispensaries outside the old city may speak little to no English. Have Google Translate ready or learn a few basic Thai phrases. Pointing at products and using numbers works in most situations.
  • Hot season vs cool season — Ayutthaya is an open-air city with minimal shade between temples. From March to May, daytime temperatures regularly exceed 38°C. The cool season (November to February) is far more comfortable for exploring on foot. Plan your dispensary visits as air-conditioned breaks between temple walks during the hot months.
  • No clinics — Remember that Ayutthaya has zero dedicated cannabis clinics. Get your PT 33 sorted in Bangkok before you arrive.
